Harvest Moon: Echoes of Teradea

Beginner Guide: Your First Week

How to start Harvest Moon: Echoes of Teradea: the on-rails opening, your first tamed mount, stamina management and the quests worth finishing first.

Quick answer

Spend the first few days doing what the story asks, then go south of Bloomfield Village to tame a horse across the lake - a mount saves more stamina than anything else early on. After that, finish every Bloomfield quest and take the bag upgrade quest as soon as it appears.

The first few days of Harvest Moon: Echoes of Teradea hold your hand, and then they let go hard. You get cutscenes, a short tutorial, and a couple of loose quests — and after that the map opens up and none of it is explained again. This page is the setup work that makes the rest of the game comfortable.

The opening is on rails, so use it

Days one to three are scripted: cutscenes, a forced tutorial, then a handful of quests you can tackle in any order. Do them all rather than wandering off. The Bloomfield quest chain is mostly small asks — gather lumber, craft something, go to a spot and interact with it — and finishing it early is what unlocks the systems you want.

Once the leash comes off, the difficulty jumps. Expect to be short on stamina, short on inventory, and short on map knowledge at the same time, which is exactly why the order below matters.

Tame a mount before anything else

Running costs stamina, and stamina is the resource that gates your whole day. The fix costs nothing.

  1. Go straight south of Bloomfield Village, past the lake.
  2. Three horses graze on the far side.
  3. Crouch so you do not spook them, then walk up slowly.
  4. Pet one, then feed it. Doing both in one visit puts it on track to be tameable the next day.
  5. Come back the following day, repeat, and tame it — then bring it home for free.

A mount is faster than dashing and costs no stamina at all, so it pays for itself within a single in-game day. It also turns wild animal encounters into a shrug: you can simply ride past anything that would otherwise catch you.

Feed animals food, not crafted feed

You start with a cow and a bird. You will be told you can cut weeds and convert them into animal feed at a machine. Do not bother: it takes twenty weeds for one feed. Any food item you are carrying — a mushroom, a forage item, anything edible — can be handed straight to an animal and counts as feeding it. That is roughly twenty times faster.

Finish the bag upgrade

There is an optional early quest to upgrade your bag. Take it the moment you can. It triples your inventory from two rows to six, which is the difference between planning your day around storage and just playing. It is also a reason to get a lamb early, since the quest wants wool.

Quests to clear in Bloomfield

  • Every villager request in the first town. They are small, and they feed the story forward.
  • The bag upgrade.
  • The first Power Statue chain, which unlocks map reveal and teleporting between statues once the Harvest Goddess has some power back.

Early-game habits worth building

  • Keep food in your bag at all times. Dropping food distracts a charging wild animal; that is your cleanest escape.
  • Creep up to every statue you see. Some statues flee if you run at them and you have to wait until the next day to try again.
  • Plant grass. Grass seeds need no watering, grow on their own, and can be harvested two or three times each. A forest sprite on your own farm hands out three free grass seeds every third day.
  • Explore your own farm first. There are ledges to jump off, hidden spots, and free resources on land you already own.
  • Do not let livestock graze near crops. Hungry animals eat growing crops unless they are fenced in or already fed.

What to build towards

Your first real targets are a second animal species, the bag upgrade, and a warp statue or two so travelling stops eating your day. From there the farming guide covers the farm itself, crops covers what to plant, and animal companions explains how the animals you tame turn into tools.
